Tipstyrs Content Guidelines
Tipstyrs exists to make hiring more transparent.
We want candidates to share what actually happened during a hiring process while keeping the platform useful, fair, and focused on the process rather than individual people.
The Basic Rule
Share your experience. Stick to what happened. Focus on the hiring process.
A good Tipstyrs submission helps another candidate answer questions such as:
- How long did the process take?
- How many interviews were required?
- Was compensation disclosed?
- Was the process explained clearly?
- Did the company communicate consistently?
- Was an assessment required?
- Did the candidate receive a final decision?
What We Encourage
Firsthand Experiences
Submit only hiring experiences you personally participated in.
Do not submit stories you heard from friends, coworkers, social media, or other sources.
Specific Process Information
Useful submissions contain concrete information such as:
"I completed five interviews over seven weeks."
"The salary range was not included in the posting but was provided during the recruiter screen."
"I was told I would hear back Friday and received an update the following Monday."
These statements are more valuable than generalized accusations.
Constructive Context
You may explain what worked well and what did not.
Negative experiences are allowed.
Positive experiences are equally welcome.
Tipstyrs does not require a company to hire you for the experience to be rated positively.
A respectful rejection can still represent an excellent candidate experience.
What We Do Not Allow
Names of Individual Recruiters or Employees
Focus on the company and process.
Do not identify individual:
- Recruiters
- Hiring managers
- Interviewers
- Employees
Example:
Allowed:"The recruiter did not follow up after the final interview."
Not allowed:"Jane Smith in HR ghosted me and is terrible at her job."
Personal Attacks
Do not insult, threaten, ridicule, harass, or attack individuals.
Claims About Motives You Cannot Know
Avoid statements such as (unless you have direct, supportable evidence and the content is appropriate for publication):
"They never intended to hire anyone."
"The job was fake."
"They rejected me because of my age."
Tipstyrs is designed to report candidate experience, not adjudicate allegations of unlawful conduct.
Confidential Information
Do not publish:
- Confidential company information
- Trade secrets
- Internal documents
- Proprietary assessments
- Interview question banks
- Passwords
- Internal communications you are not permitted to disclose
Personal Information
Do not include:
- Personal email addresses
- Phone numbers
- Home addresses
- Social Security numbers
- Private contact information
- Medical information
- Other sensitive personal information
Discriminatory or Hateful Content
Content attacking people based on protected characteristics is prohibited.
False or Manipulated Submissions
Do not:
- Fabricate experiences
- Submit repeated versions of the same experience
- Submit positive reviews on behalf of an employer
- Submit negative reviews on behalf of a competitor
- Coordinate submissions to artificially raise or lower a score
Reviews Are About the Process, Not the Outcome
One of Tipstyrs' most important principles is:
Rejection is not a negative candidate-experience event by itself.
Companies should be evaluated on how they run the process.
For example, a candidate may receive a rejection but still report:
- Clear expectations
- Professional interviews
- Timely communication
- Reasonable interview requirements
- Prompt closure
That can result in a strong Candidate Experience Score.
Conversely, receiving an offer does not automatically mean the process was good.
Written Comments
Comments should answer:
What should another candidate know before entering this hiring process?
Helpful:
"The process included four interviews and a three-hour case study. Everyone was professional, but there were approximately two weeks between each stage."
Less helpful:
"Worst company ever. Avoid them."
Tipstyrs may edit, shorten, reject, or remove comments that do not meet these guidelines.
Moderation
Tipstyrs may moderate submissions before or after publication.
We may remove or restrict content that:
- Violates these guidelines
- Contains personal information
- Appears fraudulent
- Appears duplicated
- Is unrelated to the hiring experience
- Creates legal or safety concerns
- Attempts to manipulate company scores
Employers
Employers may report content they believe violates these guidelines.
We will not remove candidate experiences simply because they are negative.
Where appropriate, we may investigate:
- Fraudulent submissions
- Incorrect company attribution
- Duplicate submissions
- Personal information
- Content prohibited under these guidelines
Our goal is not to protect companies from criticism.
Our goal is to keep the data credible.
The Standard
Before submitting, ask:
Would this information help another candidate understand the hiring process?
If the answer is yes, it probably belongs on Tipstyrs.
